The Core

Well, we have found the core of the big apple, after a two year journey…..and what a journey it has been!! This is the final slice from NYC. Thanks to all who have supported us in any way! Now it is time to embark on another journey….

Our last month here has been a very busy time, trying to tie up loose ends and get things in order for the new couple. We have done our last time for this event and Sunday will be last of the last. Not sure how to close out the (slice) blog??

Things we will miss the most: the boys and the inspiration they give, spontaneous topics of discussion on most any subject at all hours of the day or night! quiet evenings of reflection at the unit and amazing sounds and sights of the city, all our friends who visited us and the family and friends of the boys who passed thru, all the different ethnic foods we have tasted and much more….the rich and poor and masses of people going where? The wall street CEO dressed for success and the drug addict sprawled out on the sidewalk. We have gazed at the city from skyscrapers and rode the subway beneath the rivers deep, fished the oceans waters and sailed the Long Island coast with friends we met. We have served the homeless at the Bowery and food pantry’s and brought the gospel story at rescue missions. We have seen the effects of those who have found the Lord in the most interesting places, some who are now joining us at Sugar Hill. Our hearts are full of gratitude for every experience…

We want to express our appreciation to those we were privileged to work with: Stan and Marilyn Ensz, Jerold and Jan Smith, Justin and Robin Unruh, Todd and Donna Schmidt, Roger and Elsie Penner and Kendon and Kaitlyn Eck, Clay and Dana Shultis, the new couple in Queens as tract workers, some we have shared the brownstone with and some tract workers at New Jersey, the Poughkeepsie group who joined us every other Sunday, what a wonderful group of special people we have learned to love and labor together with, thanks to each one!!

Also was privileged to meet most of the workers in the Hartford CT mission and unit program. Tim and Edi Buck, Ashton and Jessica Koehn, Devon and Camille Holdeman, Titus and Grace Stutzman and Darcy and Shelley Boese.

Special thanks to the twenty-one boys who gave their service here at Sugar Hill Unit. Lifetime memories from all of them. May they be rewarded for their service!

Also want to thank Elmer and Mary Ellen Swarey, our field secretary from USA Missions who supported us in so many ways. Coming for all the boys orientations and filling in for us when we took our break.

So, a few more days here, and then we will head back to Michigan for awhile and in the spring we will began a one year term in Ann Arbor Guest House as Inn Keepers. God has become more personal, more greater and powerful than I have experienced before and want to continue that knowledge as we continue our journey forward…
