Well, time to punch a few lines out on what is happening in the city. The city is gearing up for Independence Day! Macy’s will continue it’s yearly fireworks event at the cost of six million dollars! This year it will be back on the Hudson River, last ten years it has been on the East River. Macy’s posted 8000 free tickets to designated areas for viewing, and over one million people tried to get them! Crashed the website. So, not sure where everyone will find a spot to watch. The boys will probably try to find a place somewhere, old folks aren’t up to the challenge.
We plan on taking a train trip up to Cold Springs, about a hour upstate along the Hudson. We will pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the country, maybe do some hiking. Then in evening, we will go out for Max’s last eat out. He leaves Friday and our new boy comes Saturday eve. Thomas Dyck from Hesston KS. Time marches on! We are here for five months yet, and then……?
The weather here has been hot the last couple weeks, makes getting around more tiring when it is hot and humid. Thankful for new mini split air units that were recently installed. More quiet and efficient, plus no lugging the window units up all the steps. Looking like in the eighties the next couple weeks.
We attended the Nigerian wedding in Poughkeepsie, NY the weekend of June 15. We went up Friday afternoon and attended the supper, didn’t really know what we were eating! It was Nigerian food, so….. It was different but good, need to develop a taste for it I assume. The wedding was mostly what we call normal, but a few of their traditions mixed in, very nice service. Five of our former unit boys came and stayed with us and attended the festivities. Tim and Ann Boehs also came and they stayed with us too. Very enjoyable time!!
Rachel and I are heading to 109 pantry soon to help with the holiday schedule, being closed for the 4th. Boys are at Bronx pantry now, they may come help out this afternoon if they get their work done.
We wish all of you a safe and happy holiday wherever it finds you. Thanks for all those who have visited and are looking forward to those still coming!
